Let Us Go Then, You and I . . .

Oooh. The title of the blog has changed! Yesterday it was Afternoons and Coffeespoons. Now it’s Unicorn Dreams. What could that possibly mean?

It could mean nothing. I might post this and not come back to my blog for four more years.

But it could mean I have too long, as T.S. Eliot wrote, “measured out my life with coffee spoons,” and now it’s time for a change.

Perhaps I’m finally focusing on my Unicorn Dreams.

Which begs the question: What are unicorn dreams?

Well, the unicorn stands for something unique, rare, fantastical or simply mere fantasy.

It also, in some accounts, stands for purity.

In medieval religious iconography, the unicorn symbolizes both the Incarnation of Christ and also the Passion of Christ.

In dream analysis, the presence of a unicorn signifies seeking more magic in life, or encouragement to pursue a path already started upon.

Unicorn Path

So, one could say this new title marks a shift in this blog. No longer will I be whiling away overly-caffeinated afternoons.  Instead, I’ll be filling my life (and yours) with unique, rare, pure, fantastical dreams in accord with my Christian beliefs, seeking more magic in my life, and pursuing the new path which I’ve already started upon.

Stay tuned!

I am a writer and high school English teacher at a Catholic, all-girls private school. I began my teaching and writing career over 30 years ago, earning my Ph.D. in English Education from and first teaching at New York University. After I finished my degree work, my husband and I moved to Florida; I have taught at both Nova Southeastern University and The University of Tampa. I left academia to raise two beautiful daughters and help care for my parents, which is when I turned to blogging to help me process my experiences. I started in 2003 with a LiveJournal entitled "Afternoons with Coffee Spoons" which I eventually translated over to Wordpress. In 2019 I was invited to join "The Gloria Sirens" blog, which gave me space to develop my voice. Over the past few years, as I have raised teenagers and gone back to teaching, my writing has become more focused on the interplay of the Catholic faith, mystery, and storytelling. This has, in 2025, led me to return to writing exclusively for my own blog where I can more fully explore "Every Grace and Blessing" that God has bestowed upon me and those I love.
